NFL scout just gave Texas QB Arch Manning an unexpected draft grade

The Texas Longhorns enter the 2025 college football season with Arch Manning officially set as the starting quarterback. With Quinn Ewers off to the NFL, it's finally Arch time in Austin.

Could this be the only year Manning is the QB1 at Texas? Or will he come back in 2026?

There is a path where Manning is the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, although there are other scenarios where he could return, cash in some NIL money and still be the No. 1 pick the year after.

Regarding Manning's draft buzz, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated gave an update in regards to the Texas QB. Here's what one AFC college scouting director told Breer about Manning's draft hype.

“I get that everyone’s excited. That run happened and people started talking—they’re almost surprised with that last name that he has that speed, and the ability to generate big plays with his legs, and he gets transformed into this elite prospect. The reality is we haven’t really seen him run the offense with any consistency yet. And that’s not his fault, he just hasn’t played."

That same scouting director also said that double-digit games on film would be helpful and the QB spot "requires a much larger bank of film."

Another AFC college scouting director also weighed in on Manning's draft portfolio.

“You just don’t know until they’re really playing. Right now, the body of work is too small. We’ve seen big guys with talent, the tools, the arm, that don’t know how to process, and don’t have the accuracy to all levels of the field consistently enough. What we have on [Manning] isn’t nearly enough. You could guess, but that’s really all you’ll be doing—guessing.”

Manning played a few games as the starter when Ewers was injured before going back to the reserve role. Still, there is a ton of hype around Manning, and rightfully so.

But, the 2025 season is a big one for Manning.
