Cavaliers injury nightmare gets worse with announcement on Evan Mobley, De’Andre Hunter

The Cleveland Cavaliers are not in a good place right now.

They lost Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Indiana Pacers. They didn't have point guard Darius Garland in that game due to a toe injury.

And now trying to come back in the series, Cleveland has two more major injury issues.

Evan Mobley and De'Andre Hunter will also be listed as questionable for Tuesday's Game 2, alongside Garland on the injury report.

Head coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters that there is "real concern" about the availability of the two forwards.

Mobley hurt his left ankle while landing awkwardly on a jump shot during Sunday's fourth quarter.

Hunter hurt his thumb on a hard landing when his dunk attempt was blocked by Indiana's Benedict Mathurin on a play no foul was called.

Atkinson wasn't thrilled with either play.

"I don't think they were dirty plays, but I think it passed a line of physicality," Atkinson said Monday. "That line we've kind of been talking about where it became excessive. I don't think this is on Indiana; I have so much respect for how they play. But the fact of the matter, that's on the referees. Maybe they weren't missed calls, and maybe I'm misinterpreting the rules, but I have a problem when we got two of our best players doubtful for tomorrow's game. It's hard for me to get my head around that."

Hunter has been coming off Cleveland's bench but has a top-six minute rate on the Cavs.

Mobley has been a superstar this season at his power forward spot.

If both are out, it'll press Dean Wade and Isaac Okoro into much heavier duty than would be ideal.
