NFL punishes Colts player for actions in preseason game

The Indianapolis Colts are gearing up for their regular-season debut, but for one player, there's still a bit of a cloud surrounding what he's dealing with from the team's final preseason game.

The Colts' last preseason game was on Aug. 29 against the Detroit Lions. The Lions won that game, 25-16.

During that game, cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt was flagged in the second quarter at the 8:56 mark for unnecessary roughness.

This is a really messy situation, actually, because he also has a one-game suspension due to actions taken off the field. That punishment is due to an incident where Taylor-Britt was arrested for reckless driving and driving without a license. He got a five-day jail sentence.

But, for the preseason game, the NFL is fining the player $7,791. Each Saturday, the league announces a tally of players getting hit with fines based on actions taken during games that break the rules of the league.

Per the NFL, the league "uses the fine schedule to outline the league's and the union's expectations for players to conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league."

Not surprisingly, Taylor-Britt received the highest fine of the week. But, the highest fine of the entire offseason is much more costly. That honor goes to Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Tytus Howard, who has to pay $12,537 for unnecessary roughness and striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing in the team's first preseason game of the year.
