NFL analyst roasts Jaguars for poor free agency performance

Free agency has been open for a week now, and the Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of the quietest teams.

Well, quiet in terms of adding talent- they've lost several key contributors. The Jaguars have seen starting running Travis Etienne Jr., starting linebacker Devin Lloyd, and starting defensive backs Greg Newsome II and Andrew Wingard all sign elsewhere this offseason.

In response, the team has made one notable signing so far- depth running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. Don't get me wrong, Rodriguez is coming off a career season and could be a solid contributor. However, that signing doesn't make up for all the team has lost.

Garrett Podell of CBS Sports recently graded each team's offseason so far, and the Jaguars got one of the worst grades in the league. Podell gave the Jaguars a D- and offered the following analysis:

The Jaguars will be relying on Travis Hunter to essentially be a full-time corner in 2026, but at least they acquired a rotational running back in Chris Rodriguez Jr. fresh off a career year. The running back and linebacker positions still need plenty of help. Jacksonville's losses in relation to their additions make the most lopsided such ratio of the offseason.

As Podell mentioned, it seems like the Jaguars are content to rely on Travis Hunter being a full-time starter at corner in 2026. That's fine, except for the fact that his ability to play both sides of the ball was a major selling point.

The Jaguars need more help in the secondary, another starting linebacker, and some help at wide receiver too. It'll be hard to patch all those holes in the draft, especially considering the team doesn't have a first-round pick in 2026.

It's also possible that the Jaguars aren't done losing quality players. Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has frequently been floated in trade rumors this offseason, and if the team moves him, they'd just have another big hole to fill.

It will be interesting to see if the team can make any moves in the second part of free agency to salvage their offseason. The Jaguars just won the AFC South in 2025, and repeating is incredibly hard.
