As the New York Yankees continue to prepare for the start of the season, the health of their starting rotation remains one of the biggest questions. Getting elite arms ready for the year is just as important as anything the Yankees will deal with this season.
Carlos Rodon, who continues to work his way back as the team needs him, is at the top of that list.
According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Rodon took another step forward recently by throwing a live batting practice session. The veteran threw 20 pitches during the workout, giving the Yankees an encouraging sign as he ramps up toward real action.
Skipper Aaron Boone said that Rodon could still appear in a ST game before the team heads out for Opening Day, depending on how his recovery goes.
Even if that timeline doesn’t happen, the Yankees still believe the left-hander could return early in the regular season.
“A late April return is also still possible,” Hoch wrote.
For New York, Rodon’s health is extremely important to the outlook of the pitching staff. When healthy, he’s proven to be among the elite, despite Yankees fans not always being too happy with him.
