The Boston Red Sox have built one of the best outfields in baseball, but that depth needs to eventually lead to players being left out. With multiple young players either locked into long-term deals or under team control for years, talks have been prevalent about how the organization will manage its crowded outfield.
One player whose name has surfaced in that conversation is Jarren Duran.
According to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, Duran’s future in Boston could be questionable because of his contract timeline in comparison to other young outfielders on the roster.
McCaffrey noted that Ceddanne Rafaela and Roman Anthony have already signed extensions, while Wilyer Abreu, who isn’t scheduled to hit free agency until 2030, could also eventually receive a long-term deal.
Duran, meanwhile, is under team control for less time, as he’s currently set to reach free agency after the 2028 season.
“Trading Duran would open a spot for Campbell down the line,” McCaffrey wrote.
For now, however, Duran is an important piece of Boston’s roster. His speed, defense, and offensive production have made him a valuable player. If the Red Sox decide to go in a separate direction, they should be able to get a decent return for him.
