The New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks squared off at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday. Both teams arrived with great desperation to secure wins and rise in the conference standings. New Orleans entered the contest with a 1-6 record while Dallas held a 2-5 record.

Both teams made one change to their starting lineups from the previous game. The Pelicans started with Trey Murphy III, Saddiq Bey, Herbert Jones, Kevon Looney and Jeremiah Fears. The Mavericks' starting five comprised Cooper Flagg, D'Angelo Russell, Daniel Gafford, P.J. Washington and Max Christie.

The Pelicans landed the first punch and started the game on a 9-0 run, forcing a quick timeout from Dallas coach Jason Kidd after just 3:28 minutes. Max Christie gave the Mavericks their first basket from a made 3-pointer with over eight minutes left in the quarter.

Klay Thompson, who dropped to the bench, entered the game with around five minutes left and received loud applause from the Mavericks fans. The veteran forward scored five quick points as the Mavericks entered the second quarter trailing 29-19.
