Nets receive encouraging Cam Thomas injury update

The Brooklyn Nets are playing their best basketball of the year, having won five of their last eight games. Considering their season total of eight wins, the Nets' form has improved tremendously since the beginning of the season.

Michael Porter Jr. has contributed heavily to the Nets' success, as he began the month of December with a hot streak.

Apart from Porter Jr., the Nets have seen encouraging performances from Noah Clowney in addition to rookie Danny Wolf.

That said, Brooklyn's lineup may soon get even stronger. According to head coach Jodi Fernandez, Cam Thomas has been progressing through rehab very well. “CT [Cam Thomas] is doing great. He had his 5-on-5 [Saturday], looked really good,” Fernández said. “And he’s going to continue to do that until we feel he’s ready to go."

Considering Thomas hasn't suited up for Brooklyn in nearly two months, this is an encouraging sign. When healthy, Thomas is regarded as one of the league's best young scorers. The 24-year-old has averaged over 15 points for his career, including 20 or more in the last three seasons.

Thomas averaged 24 points per game last season and is averaging 21.4 in eight games for the Nets so far this season.

Given his recent progression, Brooklyn could be hopeful for Thomas to return near the end of the month or early January.

The Nets are scheduled to face the Philadelphia 76ers in their next matchup Tuesday before traveling to Minnesota to face the Timberwolves Saturday, following a brief Christmas break.
