He's been hanging out since Sunday due to the snow storm

  • Well, at least seeing this beautiful boy get a yummy treat while the snow storm is raging outside is a sort of relief. It's always good knowing a cat is being well taken care of, instead of forgotten outside while the weather is treacherous. All cats deserve the warmth of a home, especially when the season hasn't given in yet to a more pleasant kind of environment.

He belongs to my neighbor's but I felt bad leaving him outside like they do all the time esp with such cold weather, he's such a sweetie

Longjumping-Salad484 I do this in a similar NMC situation. if the weather is bad outside I go out and call for him and wait. it doesn't take long. if he's hunkered down somewhere nearby, he comes running. he knows I'm looking out for him.

  • 07

OP elethmixer He comes running to us when we arrive home, it took a long while to get him to trust us enough to go inside but once he has, he's been visiting quite often! He usually leaves after a couple of hours tho, never had him stay this long.

slicablepaper Keep him. Your neighbors sound like d_cks!

  • While we refrain from using this language, we definitely share the sentiment. A cat should be a permanent resident where he's wanted, loved, and cared for. If this home is where he gets all these boxes checked, then this is the place where he should call home. Not the neighbors' place, who leave him outside while the weather is unkind, and block his way to get back inside.

OP elethmixer I want to but my mom is super allergic to cats, I've been trying to get him to use a litter box but he's very scared of a lot of things even string toys

  • Unfortunately, allergies are a fixed factor that prevents cats from being adopted. It's a bummer, to say the least. But seeing as this cat really suffers from the winter cold, while his “owners” are indifferent to the situation, it might be a good idea for the mom to take some allergy pills until they find this beautiful boy his forever home. They can foster, only until a suitable family is found.

slicablepaper Din! I'm in the same boat as your mother...hol up!! Not using the litter box and scared of string toys? Sounds like his owners haven't taught him cat basics and don't play with him. F_cking . Why adopt an animal and mistreat them?

  • 11

OP elethmixer Yeah, they just keep their cats outside, most of them are too scared to even get near me but I knew this guy since he was a kitten and it took such a long time getting him to trust me to even allow me to pet him. He's bitten me and scratched me in the past during the trust process but I know he was just scared so I never held it against him. I don't understand my neighbors at all. Kitty even freaks out if I move a little too fast.

willworkforwatches That sounds like your neighbors are just supporting a feral colony... you might end up with a new cat this weekend... congrats!

  • 13

OP elethmixer I just wish they were more careful because we live right next to train tracks and a busy road...

  • 14

wrakshae Complete with emergency churrus I'm glad the cat has you, OP. Your neighbours, otoh...

  • 15

OP elethmixer It's how I finally got him to let me pet him and come inside! Churu bribery

  • 16

oceans_5000 What a sweet boy. I hope you can work things out

  • 17

OP elethmixer He's a very sweet boy, he's tried to fully sit on my lap but he's too fat so he didn't fit... it's why he only hangs out on one of my legs now when he wants cuddle time.

slicablepaper I'm sorry...Cats as in plural and not singular?....these people are lunatics. S ks your mother has allergies, tho. Cat looks super comfortable with you. Glad you took him in

  • 19

OP elethmixer Yeah, they have two other cats but I rarely see them since they're usually hiding somewhere. I rly wish I could keep him here but my mom has been having a rough allergy time with him here. He loves sitting on people's laps, he even sat on my mom's lap yesterday!

  • 20

evlgns Put a partially folded blanket on your lap it will make the surface area bigger for him to fit

  • 21

OP elethmixer Noted, I just bought him his own blanket too so my mom knows not to go near it

  • 22

Emotional-Dog8118 So adorable!!! Glad you could give him a warm port in a storm →+!!!

  • 23

OP elethmixer Me too! I'm rly happy that he trusted us enough to stay here. Happy cake day!

  • 24

LmLc1220 I'm allergic to it, too, I have been feeding my boy live clear, using air cleaners, brushing him, and sweeping a little more. And Zyrtec kids liquid doesn't make me sleepy

  • 25

OP elethmixer I tried to brush him but unfortunately he was scared of the brush so I've been trying to get him comfortable with seeing a brush first.
