Alexis Jensen will leave Gretna High School in Nebraska as one of the greatest to ever play softball. For the second consecutive season, the 5-foot-9 senior has been named the Gatorade Softball Player of the Year in the state.
Jensen, who has committed to play softball for Nebraska in the fall, owns an earned run average of 0.29 with 234 strikeouts in just 98 innings pitched this year. The left-hander led the Dragons to an undefeated season and Class A state title last year.
She walked just 10 batters and also hit .549 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI at the plate.
"Alexis Jensen is the best pitcher and most well-rounded hitter and teammate in the state," Papillion-LaVista head coach Tom Horton said. "Her competitiveness is unmatched. Without her in the lineup, Gretna doesn't have the season they had."
Brody Jindra, a junior at Elkhorn South High School in Omaha, was named the baseball player of the year. He helped the Storm reach the Class A state tournament while hitting .419 with 19 RBI, 36 runs scored, 12 steals and a 5-1 record on the mound with 51 strikeouts in just 47 innings pitched.
"Jindra was really good on the mound and at the plate against us," Creighton Preparatory School head coach Pat Mooney said. "He's the best player in the state."
While he has a year left, Jindra has committed to play baseball at Nebraska.
