Yankees infielder makes Derek Jeter-esque catch sprinting through barrier

One of the most famous plays in New York Yankees defensive history came from Derek Jeter two decades ago against the Boston Red Sox.

Jeter, from his shortstop spot, sprinted into shallow left field and into foul territory after a popup.

He ended up making the catch at full speed and couldn't stop himself before crashing over the side wall and into the stands.

Jeter wound up needing stitches after a nasty collision beyond the wall.

Thankfully for the Yankees, the new iteration of this play didn't result in any blood, but it was a bit gasp-worthy all the same.

This time, it was third baseman Oswald Peraza making the incredible catch.

Instead of going over the wall to the stands, Peraza flipped over the tarp in foul territory.

The Yankees haven't yet been able to solve their third base conundrum this season, but this is a highlight moment that New York needed at their weakest position.

Jeter might watch this one fondly, knowing he once made a stellar play much like this.
