NBA insider urges Pistons to trade Jalen Duren to Bucks for $165M rim runner, lob threat

The Detroit Pistons have been gearing up for the season after being upset by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs last season. The team is looking to once again be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, but the competition has gotten tougher.

The Pistons are trying to lock down their young players for the future of the organization. They signed Ausar Thompson to an extension over the weekend.

“Detroit Pistons All-Defensive forward Ausar Thompson has agreed to a five-year, $155 million rookie-scale contract extension with the franchise, sources told ESPN," ESPN's Shams Charania wrote

Detroit has even finally offered Jalen Duren the contract he has wanted throughout the offseason.

“The Pistons and Jalen Duren are at an impasse and it's highly up in the air and questionable as to whether he will be reporting and showing up for media day in just 7 days...over the course of this offseason, his offer from the Pistons has been around the $180 to $190M over 5 years range. And that has also included incentives like weight clauses to my understanding. And that has all played a part in this as well. And over the last several weeks been kind of quiet on this front. The sides have picked up communication. And I am told right now the Pistons offer to Jalen Duren is $200M over 5 years,” Charania said.

It is still unclear if he will take it, but if he doesn’t, NBA insider Brett Siegel believes the Pistons should trade him to the Milwaukee Bucks for Myles Turner.

“At this point, if Duren won’t take the $40M annually in the table, send him to Milwaukee for Myles Turner and other assets. It’s clear he doesn’t want to be in Detroit,” Siegel posted.

This would be a pretty solid trade for the Pistons, as it would make Duren’s ongoing contract problems the Bucks’ issue to manage. Turner is also a reliable veteran with NBA Finals experience.

Turner has made $165 million throughout his career. The veteran can rim run and catch lobs at a high level. Making this trade would allow Detroit to finally move on from Duren and end the ongoing contract dispute.
