Victor Wembanyama is off to an incredible start. In leading the San Antonio Spurs to a crushing 125-92 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, Wembanyama produced a contender for the year's best highlight reel -- on the opening night of the 2025/26 season.
Wembanyma dropped a 40-point, 15-rebound double-double with zero turnovers, showcasing an awe-inspiring array of paint moves and spacing ability with his 7'5'' frame. Many of his best moments came when matched up against Anthony Davis, one of the best players of his generation, who merited selection to five All-Defense teams over the first 13 years of his career.
Did Anthony Davis ask for an NBA height limit?
After the Mavs' loss, a Facebook post went viral thanks to a quote that was attributed to Davis.
According to the post (embedded below), Davis said that the NBA should "implement a height limit for its players" after Wembanyama torched him as the primary defender.
Though the quote is fake -- Davis never said it -- fans on Facebook had plenty of fun at the 10-time All-Star's expense.
One fan said "(Davis) got owned last night no wonder he says that," while another wrote "it was all good when he was one of the tallest (players)."
"
Imagine not being able to play in the NBA because you’re too tall," another fan said.
"He just mad because he got dunked on by Victor," said another in the comments.
Even at nearly seven feet tall, Davis -- a future Basketball Hall of Fame inductee -- could not handle Wembanyama in full flight. It goes to show how special Wembanyama is as an individual talent, marking his return from a season-ending blood clot last year in a special way.
