NBA fans go rabid as Timberwolves get lethal LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards duo

1 hour ago 2

The Minnesota Timberwolves seem to be going all-in on chasing an NBA championship. After years of being stuck in Western Conference Finals and second-round purgatory, Anthony Edwards gets a backcourt partner who is equally hungry to win it all. Who did they get? It is none other than LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets, and fans of the association went crazy as soon as the trade dropped.

NBA fans react to new Timberwolves duo of Ball and Edwards after Hornets trade

The Timberwolves acquire LaMelo Ball from the Hornets by giving away Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three first round picks swaps that span from 2028 to 2030, and three second-round picks, per Shams Charania of ESPN. Josh Green also joins the Timberwolves as a part of this trade.

NBA fans were quick to deduce that Anthony Edwards is getting a championship running mate in the Timberwolves system. Ball is the one who carries ball-handling duties while Edwards gets to focus on scoring. The thought of this duo running the NBA ran amok on social media, with some fans dropping huge reactions.

"I have no clue if Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball are going to work as a duo, BUT that team is going to be fun as hell to watch and play with on 2k," a fan wrote.

Another avid supporter of the league had a big declaration, "Idk how many games they'll win but Ant & Lamelo will be must see TV.... Get the oxygen ready too... They gon be RUNNIN."

Other Timberwolves fans were happy that they found an immediate solution to Edwards being reportedly disgruntled, "I like the swing on Lamelo by the Wolves. Ant probably was gonna force his way out if they didn’t do something major. especially after seeing the Wolves give the Knicks KAT and win it all."

One person also made a bold Larry O'Brien prediction immediately, "LaMelo and Ant ? Mann Timberwolves might win it next year."

Along with the hype and insanity, some comments were a bit more skeptical than others. "LaMelo to the Wolves for Naz is so bad bro lol, who else is going to replace the rebounding and just sheer size of Reid/Randle when Lamelo and Ant shooting 100 3’s a game," a fan said.

Notably, Edwards is currently recovering from left knee hyperextension and a bone bruise after the Timberwolves' NBA Playoffs run. Ball, on the other hand, has been relatively healthy in the past months with the Hornets. His most recent injury came in December of 2025 when he had a bit of trouble with his wrist. Although it is worth noting that Ball has a long history of ankle injuries that have been recurring since his rookie year.

If the Timberwolves do manage to get both of their backcourt stars healthy, they will have no problems competing with the top teams in the Western Conference once next season starts.
