The MLB trade deadline is August 3, and the Washington Nationals have a big decision to make.
Are they going to trade CJ Abrams?
The star shortstop is having the best season of his MLB career, and while defensively he leaves a lot to be desired and will probably be moved in the long-term, his bat is at a level right now that all sorts of contenders would be interested.
A few of the best teams in baseball really need a shortstop, so Abrams has the potential to bring back a huge haul if the Nats deal him.
Does it actually make sense for Washington to trade Abrams, though? That's an entirely different question.
And the fact is that they may not actually move him.
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand wrote in a new article on Tuesday that he thinks Abrams will stay put and not be dealt away before the deadline.
"I would be surprised if Abrams was moved, though I suppose anything can happen if a team decides to make a huge overpay for him," Feinsand writes. "The Nationals are having a surprisingly good season and Abrams has been a major part of that turnaround. My guess is that he's still in Washington on Aug. 4."

The Nationals had actually hoped to have their turnaround start in earnest in 2025, but that didn't happen.
This season, they look like a team on the rise, even if the playoffs are still a year away. For a team like this, at some point, you have to put your feet in the ground and commit to your core.
Trading Abrams would be pushing the contention window out into the future again -- which could work, but it's also risky.
Plenty of Nationals fans would surely like to keep Abrams, and at least this latest update from Feinsand suggests that could be what happens in the end.
