Kate Upton was a fresh-faced teenager when she earned the coveted “Rookie of the Year” title from the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue almost 15 years ago. And the iconic magazine just took to social media to revisit that first adorable photo shoot where she’s almost unrecognizable— long before she became an A-list model, actress and wife of San Francisco Giants phenom Justin Verlander.
“When you think SI Swimsuit, you think Kate Upton,” the brand captioned its Sunday, November 9 share to X (formerly Twitter). “From her debut 2011 photo shoot to her most recent appearance in the fold for the 60th anniversary issue, Upton is the definition of a SI Swimsuit ‘Legend.’"
The post itself included one photo from Upton’s debut shoot, for which she models a blue and white string bikini in a swimming pool, her wet hair natural and youthful. There’s also a second photo of her much sultrier look for the cover of the magazine’s 60th anniversary, where she rocks a flirty pink bikini while lying in the sand.
The post also links to an accompanying Sports Illustrated Swimsuit article on the star, which celebrates her “most unforgettable moments through the years.” After her splashy debut, Upton went on to grace the cover in 2012, 2013, 2017 — and the aforementioned 60-year celebration cover in 2024.
