One of the main topics of the New York Yankees' offseason was whether they would trade outfielders Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez.
Both players are still in camp and looking to make an impact at the Major League level. However, the 6-foot-7 Jones was assigned to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre on Monday afternoon.
Early reports indicate that Dominguez may also suffer the same fate after hitting .257/.331/.388 with 10 home runs and a 101 OPS+ in 123 games last season for the Yankees. New York's coaching staff may want him to receive everyday reps after struggling defensively in left field and against left-handed pitching.
Jones and Dominguez likely will spend a significant amount of time at the MLB level in 2026; it's just a matter of when.
Jones and Dominguez go deep against Phillies
Today, the Yankees are in Clearwater, Fla., for a spring training game against the Philadelphia Phillies. They've hit a pair of solo home runs, including a 416-foot shot over the left center field wall off the bat of Jones.
"Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez have both homered," the New York Post's Jon Heyman wrote on X. "Yankees will have the best outfield in Triple-A history!"
Heyman is clearly half-joking, but Yankees fans might not find his post amusing. Most of the fanbase is ready to see the impact Jones can make at the Major League level after he connected for 35 homers between Double-A and Triple-A in 2025.
