MLB exec reveals why Yankees could have 'no chance' to make a World Series run

The New York Yankees are likely to host the Boston Red Sox for the AL Wild Card round this season, which should make for a great matchup in the first round.

But for the Yankees, they might be in a bit of trouble. While Boston is in great standing with their roster, there is a glaring issue the Yankees are dealing with right now.

That issue is the same one that has an MLB executive, according to Jorge Castillo of ESPN, believing the Yankees will have "no chance" of making the World Series. That issue? It's all about Aaron Judge's availability.

"Opinions vary around the majors," Castillo writes. "One front office executive said the Yankees have 'no chance' of making a World Series without Judge."

The Yankees are 91-67 with four games to go, but with the Tampa Bay Rays winning the AL East and securing a first-round bye, the Yankees have a tough path to the World Series.

Boston is a tough draw in Round 1, and in the ALDS, the Yankees would face the Rays for another tough matchup. That's why his status is a big concern for the Yankees.

He's dealing with a calf issue, and while he could play for the Yankees in the Wild Card round, there is some real uncertainty about his availability.

Judge should be good to go for the ALDS, but it's not a guarantee. If he's out, this MLB executive clearly doesn't believe the Yankees will have a chance to make a run.

But if Judge is active, there will still be some reservations about the kind of impact he'll have on the Yankees' chances. He didn't exactly light it up during his return in August and September this season.

Still, having Judge's presence in the lineup is the kind of thing that'll raise the ceiling and floor of this team, potentially enough to make a deep run in a wide-open AL.
