MLB analyst dubs Orioles $8 million utility man as most intriguing trade candidate

The Baltimore Orioles are having a disappointing season to say the least.

After postseason berths in 2023 and 2024, the Orioles are currently 30-41. They sit in fifth place and are 12 games behind the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East.

Manager Brandon Hyde was fired after a 15-28 start, and Tony Mansolino took over managerial duties. Mansolino is 15-13

With the Orioles at the bottom of the standings, it’s likely the team will sell some pieces at the trade deadline next month.

MLB Network analyst Greg Amsinger named his three most intriguing trade deadline candidates, and an Oriole landed in the top spot.

First baseman/right fielder Ryan O’Hearn is having a great season and will be one of the top trade chips available.

O’Hearn, 31, is on pace to have the best season of his career. The Orioles utility man has 10 home runs and 27 RBI while slashing .306/.386/.495 in 59 games.

“This guy has been tearing the cover off the baseball,” said Amsinger. “He has been the one bright spot for a really rough year in Baltimore.

“Ryan O’Hearn is the No. 1 bat; the No. 1 PLAYER that’s going to get dealt at the trade deadline.”

Plenty of contenders will be calling Baltimore about O’Hearn’s services. He is a left-handed bat on a cheap expiring contract.
