Minnesota Vikings get devastating injury update on linebacker Jonathan Greenard

Vikings linebacker Jonathan Greenard’s season is officially over, and the timing comes as Minnesota’s year has already come to a disappointing close.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell said Monday that Greenard will need surgery on his left shoulder and will miss the rest of the season. It’s an injury he had been dealing with for weeks, but it was aggravated again in Sunday night’s 34–26 win over the Cowboys, making now the best time to get it fixed.

Greenard first injured the shoulder in Week 10 against the Ravens and appeared on the injury report in Week 11. He missed two games, then returned on a limited snap count over the past three weeks before re-injuring it Sunday.

The decision comes with the Vikings already eliminated from playoff contention. Minnesota was officially knocked out of the 2025 postseason before Sunday’s game, with other NFC results — most notably a Bears win — mathematically sealing their fate after Week 15.

Greenard finishes the season with 38 tackles, three sacks, and 12 quarterback pressures. While the stats were modest, he’s been a proven pass rusher, posting double-digit sacks in 2023 with Houston and again in 2024 during his first season in Minnesota.

With Greenard sidelined, rookie Dallas Turner is expected to see an increased role as the Vikings close out the season.
