If you ever faced the ravager in Minecraft during a raid, you can attest to the fact that these beasts are some of the most challenging hostile mobs in the game. They have a lot of health and do intense damage.
Facing them without proper weapons and armor would be a sure shot way of losing your inventory and life. However, there is often a dark and quite disturbing lore associated with the ravager.
While Mojang Studios have never given any resource about the origin of the ravager in Minecraft, players have come up with many theories and ideas about how the ravager was created. This article will look at these theories and spoiler alert; things can get quite dark and disturbing.
The origin of ravager in Minecraft
Early designs of the ravager shows it to look more like the illager mob in Minecraft (Image via Mojang Studios)The main thing about all the different mobs in Minecraft such the villagers, pillagers, evoker, and beasts such as the warden or the wither have no origin story. This allows players to come up with their own ideas and theories to explain the things happening in the blocky world.
One such mob is the ravager, a wild beast that can be seen attacking you during a village raid. It walks on four legs, has a dark appearance, and the face is eerily similar to an illager or a villager. This similarity has led to many lores with the most popular being the “villager mutation” theory.
It is a well-known fact that the evoker has magical powers and it can even corrupt passive mobs to become hostile. You can find the allay mobs trapped near pillager outposts. These friendly mobs are turned into hostile vexes by the dark magic of the evoker.
The ravager was called "illager beast," which signifies its connection with the illager (Image via Mojang Studios)This also indicates that evokers might have also used their dark magic on other mobs. Since we do not see a baby version of the ravager, many theories have linked this mob to the villager. The idea is that the pillagers kidnap innocent villagers, take them to their posts, and then convert them into the ravager.
Here’s the interesting bit; since the ravager has a very similar face to the villager and the skin color matches that of an illager’s, fans believe that a ravager can be made by first corrupting the villager into an illager and then mutating two illagers into a chimera-like creature called the ravager.
The ravager also makes sounds that are very similar to a villager or the illagers. The thought that there are two innocent villagers who have been transformed into this monstrous creature who eventually dies is both saddening and disturbing. Perhaps one day Mojang Studios might come up with the real origin story of the ravager and put all fan-theories to rest.
