The Bucks opened the season with an encouraging 4–1 start but have since slid down the standings. They dropped 11 of their 16 games in November, including a seven-game losing streak, and have managed just two wins in five outings so far in December.

Their uneven results mirror their on-court play. Milwaukee ranks 19th in offensive efficiency, recording 115.1 ppg, while its defense has been slightly worse, allowing 117.3 ppg, the 20th-worst mark in the league.

Unsurprisingly, Giannis Antetokounmpo has been the Bucks' best player, averaging 28.9 ppg, 10.1 rpg and 6.1 apg. However, with the Greek Freak currently injured, Ryan Rollins has stepped up as the next-best contributor, averaging 17.2 points.

On the other hand, the Brooklyn Nets endured a sluggish start to the season, managing just three wins across October and November while dropping 16 games. That form has improved in December, where the Nets have already matched that win total and sit at 3–2 for the month.

This upsurge can be attributed to their improving defense, which is allowing 117.3 ppg, the 19th-best mark in the league. However, they own the worst offense in the NBA, averaging 109.5 ppg.

Michael Porter Jr. has quickly established himself as a key piece since arriving in Brooklyn, leading the team in scoring, recording 26.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Behind him, Nic Claxton has been the Nets’ most reliable contributor, putting up 13.6 points and 7.8 rebounds.

Both teams will enter this matchup with three players on their injury reports. Milwaukee will continue to miss Taurean Prince, Giannis Antetokounmpo and AJ Green, while the Nets remain without Haywood Highsmith, Cam Thomas and E.J. Liddell.
