Mike Hopkins being hired to coach the men's basketball team at Siena looked like it was close to a done deal.
But now things appear to have changed for the former Syracuse heir and Washington head coach.
MAAC reporter Sam Federman posted on X on Sunday afternoon and wrote about the Hopkins hiring: "Things can change quickly. Hearing from multiple sources now that this is unlikely to happen."
It's not clear what actually changed, just that Hopkins may no longer coach Siena.
He was set to be the replacement for Gerry McNamara, who just took the head coaching job at Syracuse. Hopkins and G-Mac, of course, overlapped at SU, so it looked to be quite the job handoff.

Instead, it appears Hopkins isn't actually coming to the MAAC right now.
Hopkins is currently an assistant coach in the NBA for the New Orleans Pelicans.
He had previously been a college head coach at the University of Washington, where he had a 118-106 record.
Hopkins was supposed to be the Syracuse heir to Jim Boeheim about a decade ago, but when Boeheim stayed longer than planned, Hopkins eventually left for UW. That led to Adrian Autry taking over when Boeheim retired, and that didn't work out.
That has led McNamara back to Syracuse, and while it looked like Hopkins might then come back to upstate New York, as well, that plan appears to have hit a bump in the road.
