Mike Evans reveals he signed with 49ers thanks in part to George Kittle

The San Francisco 49ers made a blockbuster free agent addition with the three-year, $60 million signing of Mike Evans this offseason.

With Jauan Jennings hitting free agency, and Brandon Aiyuk's time in San Francisco all but over, Evans was a big pickup for the team. The 49ers had money and the need. This fit made a ton of sense.

During his press conference, Evans talked about why he signed with the 49ers. And as Nick Wagoner of ESPN shared, George Kittle played a big part in convincing Evans to come to the 49ers in free agency.

George Kittle helped 49ers land Mike Evans

"Mike Evans says 49ers TE George Kittle was the ultimate salesman in getting him to San Francisco," Wagoner reports. "Evans said Kittle was a big reason he ultimately chose the Niners."

While Kittle is recovering from an Achilles injury and might miss part of the 2026 season, he's already helped the 49ers with this free agency pitch to Evans.

Adding Evans from the 49ers' perspective was a no-brainer, but what about from Evans' perspective? Other than Kittle's convincing, why would he choose the 49ers?

He joins a Super Bowl-caliber team in a well-coached, high-powered offense led by head coach Kyle Shanahan and a strong starting quarterback in Brock Purdy. Last, but certainly not least, Evans will be heavily involved in the offense.

This was a perfect match for the 49ers and Evans. And while the Buffalo Bills were a possible suitor as well, the 49ers won out in the end. Thanks in part to Kittle convincing the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers superstar to come out West.
