Mike Brown lauds Mitchell Robinson's unique defensive impact for the New York Knicks

After a lengthy slump, the New York Knicks have won the past two games. Across both matchups, the Knicks have been superb defensively. During the wins against the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers, the defense has stood out. 

Mitchell Robinson has been a big part of their success. He has been quite reliable in the paint as a rim protector and an overall intimidating presence. 

Brown appreciates Robinson's defensive contributions

It has been an interesting stretch for Robinson over the past few seasons. Everyone knows he struggles with injuries, which is why he is not as consistent as he could be.

This was worsened when Karl-Anthony Towns got traded to the Knicks. The consistency could not be found because Towns took over the starting center position. They could function as a double-big lineup, but Brown favors a more traditional lineup.

In the Knicks' 112-109 victory against the 76ers, it was the defense that stood out to Brown. Considering Robinson played 27 minutes, he had a big role in stopping the 76ers, especially Joel Embiid.

Of course, the former MVP still had a massive game with 38 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. However, Robinson played good defense across the board, which was quite commendable.

"Our defensive player (of the game) was Mitch; he was phenomenal. Even like I said on the offensive glass, but he was really good defensively," Brown said after the win against Philly.

"A couple of 50/50 balls, rebounded the ball really well, a couple of blocks. Big night from Mitch on the defensive side of the ball."

Robinson knows how to make an impact defensively, and that is his role on the Knicks. It can be frustrating because he would prefer to get touches on offense, but trusting Jalen Brunson is the better option.

It would be interesting to see how Robinson's situation in New York works out because he continues to make vague social media posts about his status within the team. In the meantime, he should try his best to keep making an impact.
