Mikaela Shiffrin made her feelings known about returning to the Super G race for the first time in two years. The race will take place at St. Moritz on Sunday, December 14.

Shiffrin started her 2025-26 skiing season with a bang. She also already won her 104th World Cup race on November 30 at the Copper Mountain Slalom.

The American earned the victory by recording a combined time of 1:48.74. She won the race by 1.57 seconds against Lena Duerr and Lara Colturi, who claimed second and third positions.

Now, Shriffin is gearing up to compete in the Super G race at St. Moritz. She has not raced in this category since December 2023. The 30-year-old has skipped all the speed events since her crash at Cortina in January last year. However, she will now make a comeback in the speed event with Lindsey Vonn as her partner.

The 30-year-old revealed her anticipation and uncertainty before her first Super-G race in two years on her Instagram story. Sharing a picture of her on the slopes, she penned a note in the caption that read:

"Having trouble putting words to describe this feeling—the anticipation of returning to the start of super-G after 2 years. It’s a big step…I’m excited, nervous, and very curious about how it will feel to stand in the gate, or cross the finish line (or ski the course😂). In the past it’s been exhilarating and always made me think “man I just want to go do that again and again…”! Here’s to hoping that’s still the case! At least it has been in training over the summer and the past weeks🥴 Bib 31…racing together with a great big team of powerful athletes and wonderful friends. Here we go!❤️‍🩹 " wrote Mikaela Shiffrin.

Following her World Cup win, the American also competed in two Giant Slaloms in the first week of December at Mont Tremblant, Quebec. However, she ended up in the sixth and fourth positions.

Mikaela Shiffrin opened up about testing herself in Super G again

At the start of the season, Mikaela Shiffrin sat for an online press-conference. Here, she fielded several questions related to her skiing season, including her take on Super G. Making her feelings known about coming back to this race, she said that she wanted to test herself in this discipline ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics. (as quoted by Olympics.com)

“I would love to get a feeling for where I stand in the Super G in a World Cup race, and that is going to be a small window of opportunity for me. Basically, St. Moritz will be the opportunity for me to see where I stand and if it's even possible to qualify," said Mikaela Shiffrin.

She added:

"If it’s not, then I will move forward with GS and slalom and narrow my focus. So that's kind of very up in the air. But I adore Super G, so I don't want to let it go entirely."

Mikaela Shiffrin recently sent her support to the two-time Olympic champion, Michell Gisin. The latter faced a crash during her second downhill training run in St. Moritz.
