Paranoia overtook Sherrone Moore as he worried that his alleged affair with a Michigan assistant had become widespread knowledge, according to a bombshell Detroit Free Press report.
Moore became “stressed out” during the 2025 season, per the report, as rumors of the married father of three’s affair started to spread before his eventual firing for an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.
“Guys over there on that side of the building [where Moore’s office was] 100% knew about it,” a former insider told the publication. “They can deny it all they want, but there’s too many things that happened. If you didn’t know, you’re an idiot – it was too obvious.”
Michigan fired Moore on Dec. 10 for an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member,” which has since been alleged to be Paige Shriver.
She had been serving as the executive assistant to the head coach. The Big Ten Network captured the two on the sideline at a Michigan women’s lacrosse game last year.
The Free Press reported how Moore’s alleged mistress followed him out of a staff meeting after he exited early due to a disagreement with defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.
“It’s a really weird dynamic, one of those things where everyone knew but no one wanted to say it,” one former Michigan staffer told the paper.
“She sat right in front of his office. Her desk was right in front of his office, like 2 feet in front of his.”
CBS previously noted that the affair was the “worst-kept secret” inside Schembechler Hall — Michigan’s football facility — and that some folks had known for two years.
ESPN further reported that some noticed a change in Moore’s disposition before it all came crashing down.
“There had been a lot of uneasiness on the Michigan staff, sources had told me Sherrone Moore had been acting strange, berating assistant coaches, not acting in a normal way,” Pete Thamel said after Moore’s firing, while noting the unusual nature of the school explicitly stating the reason.
A “long-standing university employee” provided a similar take on the environment in the building that had been allowed to fester.
One source told the Free Press that some of Moore’s coaches turned a blind eye to it, with interim coach Biff Poggi saying he was “shocked” to learn of Moore’s alleged transgressions.
“Just so much tension and weird, erratic behavior and immaturity and stuff going on in Schembechler Hall,” the long-standing university employee said.
“I don’t know if it was because of a guilty conscience … but clearly there was something going on.”
More details have emerged regarding the alleged affair, with Moore having been arrested after allegedly entering her home following Shriver telling the school of their two-year relationship.
He allegedly threatened to kill himself while picking up butter knives, and was charged with three crimes, including felony home invasion and stalking.
“I’m going to kill myself. I’m going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You’ve ruined my life,” he allegedly screamed.
Shriver’s lawyers allege that Moore had a “long history of domestic violence” against their client, according to court records.
