Michael Pittman Jr. drops 4-word messages grieving Adonai Mitchell trade to Jets

The Indianapolis Colts traded WR Adonai Mitchell and two first-round picks to the New York Jets before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET trade deadline. In exchange, Aaron Glenn's team gave up two-time All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner.

After the trade, veteran Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. shared a four-word message on social media. In his tweet, he grieved the loss of Mitchell to the Jets.

"We sent my youngin," Pittman wrote in his tweet.

The Colts had drafted Mitchell with the 52nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. During his rookie campaign, the WR had 312 receiving yards and 23 receptions while starting seven of the 17 games he played. The Colts ended the campaign with an 8-9 record, failing to qualify for the playoffs.

This season, Adonai Mitchell had one start with eight appearance for the team. He had tallied 152 receiving yards and nine receptions, while the Colts put up a 7-2 campaign after Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mitchell joined the New York Jets' WR depth chart, which includes players like Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard.

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt shared an interesting detail about Adonai Mitchell's trade

On X, Rosenballt shared a tweet revealing an interesting detail about the WR's trade to the Jets. According to him, the Colts originally had no plans to include Mitchell as a part of the deal for Sauce Gardner. However, it was the Jets who urged them to include him in the deal.

"By the way, on the Adonai Mitchell part of the Sauce trade: The Jets pushed the Colts to add him into the deal. He wasn't originally part of it. They believe in his potential," Rosenblatt tweeted.

Jets GM Darrn Mougey also shared his excitement about having Mitchell as a part of the team.

"On AD Mitchell, big, fast, physically talented wide receiver. Excited to add him to the group," Mougey said during Tuesday's press conference. ... Excited to see these guys, see them up close, get to know them, work with them."

The Jets also acquired DT Mazi Smith, along with one 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 first-round pick, after trading All-Pro Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys.

Coach Aaron Glenn and his team are next scheduled to face the Cleveland Browns at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET
