Just as it seemed the Miami Heat were getting some good fortune on the injury front, it quickly turned out they weren’t lucky. Heading into Sunday’s matchup against the New York Knicks, the Heat’s roster will be even more depleted with as many as five players listed on the injury report.
Key players Davion Mitchell and Andrew Wiggins are listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup. Both missed Friday’s 149-116 loss to the Boston Celtics.
Mitchell was sidelined with an ankle sprain, while Wiggins has been dealing with lower back pain. Their absence is a big blow to Erik Spoelstra’s rotation, as both have been central to the Heat’s lineup this season.

Mitchell has started 26 of 28 games, averaging 9.9 points, 7.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 30.4 minutes per game. Wiggins has started 24 games, contributing 16.3 points, 2.8 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 32.9 minutes per game.

On top of that, Miami was already without Tyler Herro, Nikola Jovic and Pelle Larsson. Herro was ruled out due to a toe contusion. This will be his fourth straight game missed this season. He has only played six games so far, having already missed a chunk of the season earlier due to ankle surgery.
Meanwhile, Jovic has been diagnosed with an elbow contusion sustained on Dec. 16 against the Toronto Raptors. He is listed as day-to-day, with no clear return date provided. And Larsson will miss four straight games as he deals with a sprained left ankle. He is expected to return in about two weeks.
Miami is going through a rough stretch, losing six of their last eight games in December. The Heat managed to halt a five-game losing streak on Thursday against the Brooklyn Nets with a 106-95 win, but two days later suffered another loss at the hands of the Celtics.
