Miami’s run to the College Football Playoff National Championship was a new height under Mario Cristobal. The Canes took Indiana to the final possession in their home stadium. But they still came up short.
For a team that didn't play in the ACC Championship and became a problem in the Playoff, the season was great. The Hurricanes beat Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Ole Miss to get their shot.
Now Miami has Duke transfer QB Darian Mensah under center and ready to leave the drama behind him. However, the odds are stacked against the Canes right out of the gate. The last three teams who finished as the CFP runner-up (TCU, Washington, and Notre Dame) missed the Playoff the following year.
