Team USA cruised to victory in the opening game of its FIBA Women's World Cup run, throttling China 94-61 behind inspired performances by a handful of its guards.
Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, Rhyne Howard and Jackie Young combined for 54 of the Americans' points on Friday, impacting the game despite often having to avoid the painted area for fear of being swallowed up by China's bigs.
According to analyst Hunter Cruse, Clark became the first USA guard to eclipse the 10-assist mark in a World Cup game since Dawn Staley did so against Russia in 1998. Fueled by her double-double, Kara Lawson's side rolled. It will hope it can author up similar outings going forward.
