Mets superstar predicted to cut ties with club for Yankees by insider image

The New York Mets are the most intriguing team to watch this offseason.

New York's payroll is in a significantly better place than it was in last year and therefore it likely will open up the checkbook once again. The Mets are a threat to sign any big-name free agent this winter but that could lead the club to losing an internal star.

Mets star Pete Alonso is one of the top players available on the open market, but if New York could land other superstars like Juan Soto or Corbin Burnes, it may not want to bring him back.

Because of this, CBS Sports' Matt Snyder predicted that Alonso will ultimately end up signing with the New York Yankees.

"Matt Snyder: After the Mets land Juan Soto, the Yankees need to pivot for more power and first base is an area where they could upgrade," Snyder said.

Soto is going to land a deal roughly between $500 and $700 million this winter. The Mets have more money to spend than any other team, so they are the most logical landing spot for Soto. This would free up money for the Yankees to go add another star of their own.

If Alonso were to leave the Mets this winter and sign with the Yankees, it would be devastating. Landing Soto would make things much easier, but it still would be sad to see him go. If the Mets are going to let Alonso walk, they need to make sure they add another star to make up for it.
