Mets predicted to make frustrating trade deadline decision that makes no sense

1 hour ago 3

The 2026 season for the New York Mets has been incredibly disappointing. They've struggled to get out to a strong start with a 26-34 record as June begins.

They spent a ton of money and capital over the offseason, but most of those moves haven't worked out. This is a lost team, and if things don't turn around, the trade deadline is going to be a very interesting time for the Mets.

However, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller is predicting that the Mets' deadline outcome will be a lot less interesting. Miller is predicting that the Mets won't buy or sell in what would be a frustrating deadline for fans, and one that makes little sense.

Mets are predicted not to buy or sell at trade deadline

"New York Mets get stuck in no-man's land, have rare quiet deadline," Miller predicts. "... But our prediction is that they'll land in between.- somewhere around 56-57 overall and 3-5 games back of the No. 6 spot - and will just let it ride with what they've got, much to the chagrin of Mets fans."

The Mets keeping their players at the deadline wouldn't be a surprise if they climbed back into contention. Most teams fighting for a playoff spot won't be selling their key players away.

But Miller's prediction isn't simply that the Mets won't sell, but it's that the Mets won't be buyers either. Despite this roster clearly needing some help, the Mets are predicted to stand pat at the deadline and not acquire talent.

This would be incredibly frustrating for fans, but it would also make little sense from a team-building perspective.

If the Mets believe they are contenders and can win it all in 2026, then they should be trying to improve the roster at the deadline to further make them feel confident about the team.

Or if they don't see this team as capable of making waves in the postseason, then they either need to sell their assets or acquire significant help to become legitimate contenders.

But, after this start to the season, for the Mets to do nothing at the trade deadline would be a baffling decision from David Stearns and the front office.

This prediction would be a frustrating disaster for the Mets at the deadline. There's no reason for the Mets to do nothing at the trade deadline, regardless of whether they should be buying or selling. Doing nothing would be a terrible decision.
