Nolan McLean and Carson Benge are two of the most talented athletes on the New York Mets.
Maybe as good an example of that as any is the fact that both were two-way stars in college, shining as both hitters and pitchers.
And in one mind-blowing stat shared by MLB's official social media accounts, they were actually better at one another's jobs.
"Nolan McLean hit more homers (36) in college than Carson Benge (25)," @MLB wrote on X. "While Benge had more pitching strikeouts (79) than McLean (76)."
McLean was a star at Oklahoma State, and the Mets actually let him continue to be a two-way player when he first arrived in pro ball before having him transition to full commitment on the mound.
That wasn't all McLean could do. He was actually on the Oklahoma State football team, too, as a quarterback. He eventually left that sport to pursue baseball.

And if you weren't aware: Benge was McLean's college teammate. They both shone brightly at Oklahoma State.
WILD, BUT TRUE 🤯

The Mets are certainly very happy to have McLean and Benge right where they are. They've both developed into top prospects on one side of the ball.
Still, if New York ever needs someone extra in a pinch, maybe McLean and Benge will one day get the chance to show the rest of their skillset.
