Mets get 90% trade odds for pitcher not named Freddy Peralta

The New York Mets are expected to be trade deadline sellers this summer, and there are plenty of interesting options for teams to consider in a deal by the August 3 deadline.

While a lot of focus will be on Freddy Peralta, rightfully so, there are some other players worth keeping an eye on this summer. Brooks Raley, A.J. Minter, and Luke Weaver are some interesting reliever trade options, but a different starter should be of interest.

ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel projected that a Mets starter, but not Peralta, has a 90% chance of being traded by the deadline this summer. That pitcher is former New York Yankees veteran Clay Holmes.

"17. Clay Holmes, RHP, New York Mets. Chance of being traded: 90%," McDaniel and Passan project. "... He has shot up this list because teams' interest in him runs deep -- and the only reason he's not higher than 90% to go is due to the possibility of him remaining in New York on a contract extension."

Holmes, the 33-year-old right-hander, is currently on the injured list. But he's also just begun a rehab stint, which should help give teams clarity on his health.

He's under club control through the 2026 season, but he has a 2027 player option. That could complicate a return, but in reality, he should be treated as a rental by the Mets and any trade suitor.

Before his injury this season, which has kept him out since May 15, Holmes had a 2.39 ERA with a 4-4 record and 1.9 bWAR across just nine starts.

He was off to a good start to the season, and now, he might be a very valuable trade asset. His rehab is coming at a huge time for the Mets, as they can drum up trade value if he performs well.

Teams will still have interest even if he's slow to work through his rehab, as the Toronto Blue Jays traded for Shane Bieber last season despite him being on the injured list at the time of the deal.

With plenty of teams seemingly showing interest in Holmes already, it would hardly be a surprise if the Mets traded him this summer.

McDaniel and Passan give him a 90% chance of being traded, which is very high, and should be a sign to Mets fans to expect to see the veteran right-hander on the move this summer.
