After spending a ton of money over the offseason, the New York Mets have not gotten much rolling this year. Injuries have played a part, but so have an underperforming stable of arms and defensive meltdowns.
This isn't a recipe for success, but the club had the opportunity to prove the doubters wrong last week with a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs and then a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
However, the Mets had about as bad a week as you can have, playing seven straight days. They ended up getting swept by the Cubs and then lost the weekend series 1-2 to the Phillies.

Mets fans won't like seeing where their team sits in latest power rankings
Unfortunately, the manager, Carlos Mendoza, was let go before the Friday game against the Phillies. He was the only coach or front office member to get the mid-season boot.
So, with all of this going on, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter has knocked this team down a few spots in his latest power rankings from No. 25 last week to No. 30 this week.
"That crash you heard in the distance was the Mets hitting rock bottom when they fired manager Carlos Mendoza on the heels of a four-game sweep at the hands of the Cubs. Starter David Peterson was traded to the Cubs on Thursday, and that won't be the last move this front office makes as a seller in 2026."
Reuter explains that fans should prepare for a few more faces to be traded here soon. They already traded David Peterson to the Cubs, but that should be just the tip of the iceberg.
It will be interesting to see just how many moves this struggling team will make as they turn their attention to the future, as they are already 15.5 games out of first place in the division.
