The New York Yankees are going to have to wait a little longer for Aaron Judge's return from injury.
When Judge initially went on the IL with a fractured rib, the timetable for imaging to be done to reassess the rib was four to six weeks.
That was over four weeks ago. Yet, Yankees manager Aaron Boone says Judge has not undergone further imaging and won't for a few weeks.
“It's probably a couple weeks still from reimaging,” Boone said on "Talkin' Yanks". “They'll determine when they feel like he's doing stuff that [warrants] 'Alright, let's go reimage it now.' We're not at that point yet.
“He's doing some lower-body stuff now in the weight room and moving better. I think he's feeling a lot better this week, anyway.”
The Yankees appeared to be OK on offense without Judge.
Until they weren't.
"The Bronx Bombers played well initially without Judge, going 10-2 from June 4-19, but they’ve dropped eight of their past 10 games while averaging only 2.6 runs scored per game in that span," MLB.com's Thomas Harrigan wrote Tuesday.
Losing a slugger of his magnitude is not an easy adjustment. Judge missed a large portion of the Yankees' schedule in 2023 with a broken toe. The AL East club missed the postseason.
But this Yankees roster is much stronger than in 2023. Boone's squad will try to put an end to its current five-game losing streak tonight against the Detroit Tigers.
