Mets' Christian Scott finds his pre-surgery form as a major breakout candidate

After making a name for himself as a baseball player at the University of Florida, Christian Scott caught the attention of MLB scouts. During the 2021 MLB Draft, he was selected in the third round by the New York Mets.

He would steadily rise through the minor league systems and found himself making his big-league debut during the 2024 season. He made a few starts before being sent back down, and then being called up once again later that season.

However, he would go on to experience some elbow discomfort. This led to him undergoing Tommy John surgery in September, which ruled him out for the 2025 season.

Given he is coming back from a missed season, fans should not expect him to be with the big-league club on Opening Day. Instead, he will likely be stretched out in Triple-A before being called up.

The Mets do have a bit of a logjam when it comes to starting pitchers, but Scott could serve as the next man up if someone goes down with an injury. Despite that, ESPN's Kiley McDaniel tags him as a breakout candidate for the Mets.

"Scott is returning from elbow surgery and has looked good this spring, picking right back up where he left off. His fastball, cutter, and splitter are above average, as is his command when he's right -- and I'd bet that will be in the big leagues at some point this season."

Scott has all the makings to be a difference-maker for the Mets. He just needs to keep dominating and stay healthy in the minors until he gets called back up.
