Mets' 2.23 ERA reliever named potential Shohei Ohtani, Bryce Harper stopper

Unless they go on a miraculous winning streak over the next three weeks, the New York Mets are obvious sellers at this year's trade deadline.

In what's been a disappointing season for the Mets, cornerstone players like shortstop Francisco Lindor and left fielder Juan Soto will not be going anywhere.

Other players, on both sides of the ball, could be on the move.

One of them might be left-handed reliever Brooks Raley. Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly labeled the 38-year-old as a "buy-low" trade candidate for interested clubs.

"Brooks Raley might not be the guy an NL contender acquires to get Shohei Ohtani, Bryce Harper or Matt Olson out in the eighth inning, but he could be someone an aggressive manager turns to in the sixth to try to get out of a jam against a tough lefty," Kelly wrote.

Well, Harper or Olson may be that tough lefty that steps up to the plate in a game-changing moment.

Left-handed swingers have a .188 batting average against Raley in his 36 appearances this season.

Righties haven't fared much better, as they are hitting .236 off Raley.

"Raley is 38 years old, and on an expiring contract, so he's not going to bring back much for the Mets," Kelly added. "Both he and A.J. Minter are interesting left-handed options that David Stearns likely will deal in the coming weeks."

It makes no sense for the Mets to hold on to Raley.

They might not get more than a non-prospect minor leaguer in return, but it's better than nothing.
