The Detroit Tigers might not be sending many players to the All-Star Game this season, as they did a year ago, but they do have a few notable attendees.
Kevin McGonigle and Dillon Dingler are some fun All-Stars, and now, another player will be joining those two this season in Philadelphia for the All-Star Game.
As MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports, MLB announced that Tigers starter Justin Verlander is going to the All-Star Game as the "Legends pick" from the Commissioner, just as Los Angeles Dodgers future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw was an All-Star last year.
Justin Verlander named an All-Star via 'Legends Pick'
"MLB announces that Justin Verlander has been named to the AL All-Star roster as a 'Legend Pick,'" Feinsand reports. "The 43-year-old, who has been on the Injured List since early April, will not be active at the All-Star Game, but will attend and be honored during the festivities in Philadelphia."
Verlander will be joining his Tigers' teammates in Philadelphia for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, earning what will be his 10th All-Star nod during his career.
Of course, his All-Star nod this season is in honor only, as he's made just one appearance for Detroit in his homecoming season, going just 3.2 innings while allowing five runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout.

He last made the All-Star team in 2022, when he was with the Houston Astros. Now, four years later, he's back in the All-Star Game, though he's not actually going to pitch during the game.
Verlander is still on the injured list and won't be pitching during the All-Star Game. This accolade is strictly done to honor Verlander, the future Hall of Famer, one last time before he potentially retires after the 2026 MLB season.
It's a cool honor for Verlander, as he will get to be an All-Star with the Tigers for the seventh time in his career, even if this year's honor is done as a "Legends Pick," and not through normal means.
