Meet the 'Field of Dreams' movie cast and where they are now, from Kevin Costner to Amy Madigan

The Field of Dreams continues to bear fruit nearly four decades after its introduction to the lexicon of sports and film fans across the world.

The fictional patch of grass located in Dyersville, Iowa, proved a favorite of sorts to legions of baseball enthusiasts. The reason why? The uber-successful film of the same name that took place there.

"Field of Dreams" featured a star-laden cast that continues to make waves in the acting industry all these years later. Here's a look at how those who lent their chops to the sports fantasy drama have fared nearly 40 years later.

Kevin Costner as Ray Kinsella

Costner was already a superstar when he took to the diamond in Dyersville, having earned acclaim for his performances in "Silverado," "The Untouchables" (1987) and "Bull Durham" (1988). He has retained his status as one of the industry's most prominent actors in the nearly 40 years since he shared the field with Shoeless Joe Jackson, drawing praise for performances in "JFK" (1991), "Tin Cup" (1996), "Hatfields & McCoys" (2012) and "Yellowstone."

Costner has two Academy Awards in his career, picking up Best Picture and Best Director honors after directing and starring in "Dances With Wolves."

Amy Madigan as Annie Kinsella

Starring opposite Costner was Madigan, an acting heavyweight in her own right who was a few years removed from earning Golden Globe and Academy Award consideration for her performances in "Love Child" (1982) and "Twice in a Lifetime" (1985), respectively.

Madigan got her hands on some hardware four decades later, taking home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Aunt Gladys in "Weapons" (2025). Now 75, Madigan is still plying her trade as an actress. She is slated to appear in the upcoming Netflix series "All the Sinners Bleed" and the upcoming psychological thriller "Sponsor."

James Earl Jones as Terence Mann

Blessed with a basso profundo voice that, as The Guardian's Michael Coveney wrote, "rolled through the stalls like a mellow mist, rich as molasses," Jones' addition to the "Field of Dreams" cast added legitimacy to the project.

One of just 28 performers to earn an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in one lifetime, Jones was immortalized for his performances on stage and the silver screen. He starred in a number of notable roles, from his performances in Howard Sackler's "The Great White Hope" and August Wilson's "Fences" to standout showings in "Matewan" (1987), "Coming to America" (1988), "The Lion King" (1994) and, most notably, "Star Wars."

Jones died in Sept. 2024. He was 93 years old.

Timothy Busfield as Mark

Busfield enjoyed a bit of success as a film and television actor in the 1990s and 2000s, appearing in "Sneakers" (1992), "Quiz Show" (1994), "Little Big League" (1994) and "The West Wing."

However, his career fell apart following multiple sexual assault allegations. Busfield is accused of sexually assaulting six people from 1994-2026. Actress Claudia Christian filed a police report against the actor, who appeared alongside her in the 1991 film, "Strays."

Three other women to police accusing Busfield of sexual misconduct.  He is facing four counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor, per KOAT-7. Busfield has denied all allegations.

Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe Jackson

Liotta, too, was an acting titan, appearing in a handful of iconic efforts, none more noteworthy than "Goodfellas" (1990). He also proved to be something of a small screen star, earning a Primetime Emmy for a guest appearance in "ER."

Liotta, who provided the voice for Tommy Vercetti, the main protagonist for Grand Theft Auto:Vice City, died in May 2022. He was 67 years old.

Burt Lancaster as Dr. Archibald "Moonlight" Graham

Lancaster is widely considered one of the greatest film stars in history, placing 19th on the American Film Institute's list of best male starts of classic Hollywood cinema.

"Field of Dreams" represented the final film he appeared in during his lifetime. The New York native, who picked up one Academy Award, two BAFTAs and one Golden Globe across his glistening career, died in Oct. 1994. He was 80 years old.

Dwier Brown as John Kinsella

Brown, who played Costner's father in "Field of Dreams", has tended to stay out of the spotlight, appearing more in a handful of films and television series over the years. Brown was a horror movie fixture in his pomp, featuring in "House" (1986) and "The Guardian" (1990) as well as the comedy film "Dennis the Menace Strikes Again" (1998). He most recently appeared on television in 2016, playing a priest in an episode of "Rizzoli and Isles."

Gaby Hoffman as Karin Kinsella

Rounding out the list of "Field of Dreams" heavy hitters is Hoffman, who played Costner's daughter in her acting debut. A child star who appeared in a handful of films and shows in her youth, Hoffman took a hiatus from the industry before enjoying a resurgence with an impressive performance in "Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus" (2013).

Hoffman has found steady work in the years since she returned to acting. She appeared in acclaimed television programs "Transparent" and "Girls" as well as "Winning Time."
