Mavs’ Nico Harrison deemed capable of being tricked into trading Duke Blue Devils basketball phenom Cooper Flagg to Sixers for Tyrese Maxey, No. 3 pick

The Dallas Mavericks have the rights to select Duke Blue Devils basketball phenom Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, but some don’t trust Nico Harrison getting to the finish line.

Some, like the Sixer Sense’s Nicolas Kyle Pring, believe Harrison can be conned into a one-sided deal again after trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and one future first-round pick.

Pring believes flipping Flagg for Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers’ No. 3 overall pick would be “reckless” for Dallas and unlikely for both, but floated it solely due to how much of a wild card Harrison is.

“Dallas is reportedly putting an emphasis on getting a point guard this offseason to cope with the loss of Irving, and for that, the 76ers have a similarly reckless idea they could put on the table — trading Tyrese Maxey and the third overall pick for the right to select Flagg,” Pring wrote.

“This one is clearly a punch in the black hole, but Philadelphia is actually incentivized to make a drastic change this time around. Joel Embiid and Paul George are on the decline, and Maxey operating as a primary option has not yielded great returns.

“This may never even touch the realm of reality, but the Philadelphia 76ers will not get punished for being brazenly shameless and putting forth such a pitch. After all, Nico Harrison is on the other end. If he can trade Luka, he can definitely trade a colossally talented, yet unproven player.”

Flagg is not going anywhere but Dallas.

Talk of him going elsewhere, including the Boston Celtics, is far-fetched at best right now. It’s Davis, Kyrie Irving, P.J. Washington, Daniel Gafford, and Klay Thompson who’d more likely be dealt by the Mavs than the No. 1 pick.
