Podcaster Matt Walsh has announced that he will remain off social media during Christmas and the New Year to take a break.

In an X post dated December 22, Matt Walsh described 2026 as a difficult year despite it beginning on a hopeful note. He wrote:

"I will be offline for Christmas. Probably won’t be back on until the new year. This has been a very difficult year, though it started with so much excitement and hope. That feels like a decade ago."

He continued:

"We have a lot of work to do in 2026. It’s time to get serious. We can either rally and fight for what we say we believe in, or we can implode and surrender. We all have to make our choice. I know I’ve made mine. See you next year."

Matt Walsh has been an ardent supporter of President Trump in the last elections, which is perhaps why he mentioned the year beginning with hope due to his reelection. However, the podcaster expressed immense grief after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead during a university talk in September this year.

Overall, this year has included major ups and downs for the United States, with Walsh being an active participant in conversations about their political and social scenario.

Matt Walsh has been vocal about Charlie Kirk's death since the fatal incident in September. Apart from claiming Kirk could have been the president of the United States on his podcast, Walsh has also defended his widow, Erika Kirk, on many occasions.

In an X post earlier this month on December 10, Walsh claimed there is an "obvious hole" in the Charlie Kirk murder story. He wrote:

"There is one obvious hole in the Charlie Kirk assassination story, which is that leftist trans freaks were posting about the killing before it happened. That would seem to indicate that there were potentially even more leftists involved in the plot.

Matt Walsh's post further stated:

"If there’s a conspiracy, it’s among leftist radical militants. But either way, all of the evidence points to this being the work of at least one (possibly a lot more than one) radical leftist scumbag. They want us dead. They had every reason and every motivation to kill Charlie. And they did."

Although a 22-year-old Utah native, Tyler Robinson, has been arrested for Kirk's murder, he has yet to be proven guilty in court. Meanwhile, multiple podcasters have speculated about the motives behind his murder and what led to such an incident.

Prominent among those is Candace Owens, who has been sharing multiple alleged conspiracy theories about Kirk's death. She also recently met Erika Kirk privately to reportedly discuss and come to an understanding. However, the results of the meeting remain unclear.

Meanwhile, in a September 12 episode of the Matt Walsh Show, the podcaster also hailed Kirk as a "widely beloved" activist who would one day become the US President. He said:

“He was too widely beloved, especially among the younger generations. So they killed him. I can only be honest with you in this moment and tell you that um that um I am sad, I am heartbroken and I am full of rage."

He continued:

"Everyone who knew him and so many who did not know him personally could tell that he was destined to be the president of the United States one day."

After Kirk's death, his wife Erika Kirk took over as the CEO of his organization, Turning Point USA. She has been taking care of all affairs and recently spoke at TPUSA's America Fest 2025 as well.
