Mason Miller's ERA+ with Padres looks like Baseball Reference typo

1 hour ago 3

It's only April, and he's a closer, but Mason Miller of the San Diego Padres should already be in the Cy Young conversation.

Miller has not allowed a run and just one hit in 9.1 innings this season. Through nine games, he's averaging 22.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

"There have been 3 instances in MLB history of a pitcher striking out at least 75% of the batters he faced over a span of 9 appearances (min 20 faced)... They're all by Mason Miller!!" MLB.com's Sarah Langs shared on X on Friday.

Since joining the Padres, let's take a look at Miller's ERA+, which is an adjusted stat that takes ballpark factors and opponent strength into consideration.

A good ERA+ is 125.⁰A bad ERA+ is 75.⁰An average ERA+ is 100.

An ERA+ of 780 is absurd. The Athletics sent Miller and left-hander JP Sears to the Padres for four players, including shortstop prospect Leo De Vries, last August.

De Vries is an extremely talented player and could be a star in the making for the A's. At just 19, he should be with the AL West club by the time it makes its move to Las Vegas.

But Miller is clearly the most dominant pitcher in baseball right now.
