Dolphins urged to use risky and high-volume draft plan by ESPN analyst

The Miami Dolphins have a ton of draft capital in the 2026 NFL Draft. They own two first-rounders at No. 11 and 30 overall, while also owning four third-rounders for seven picks inside the top 100 selections.

But that might not be enough for Miami to conduct the full-scale rebuild it needs to do. Jon-Eric Sullivan, the new general manager, could benefit from adding more picks to make as many picks as possible amid a major rebuild.

ESPN analyst Ben Solak is urging the Dolphins to do the same thing, as he believes the Dolphins should make a lot of picks, as well as adding more picks overall, while taking fliers on players other teams might be wary of.

"Make a lot of picks," Solak writes, "trade down for more picks and trade down for 2027 picks to prepare for potentially trading up for a QB. Draft risky players."

This is a fascinating draft strategy Solak is proposing the Dolphins should utilize. While a lot of teams might be consolidating their picks to draft the best player possible, the Dolphins don't have to follow the same model.

While Miami will still want to draft good players, it can take some bigger risks instead. If someone is dealing with an injury, the Dolphins could take them at a discount down the board without too much worry.

They own a lot of capital, and even if someone isn't an instant-success, this rebuild in Miami is going to last at least two years.

Sullivan is part of a new regime in Miami, and he should have plenty of runway to build the team to the best of his abilities.

If he can take as many players as possible, while adding more capital in the 2027 draft class, and take chances on high-risk, high-reward players, then Sullivan could put together a great draft for the Dolphins.

Solak is urging the Dolphins to do just that, and with the current status of the Dolphins, this interesting draft strategy makes some sense.
