Marvin Mims Jr. shares honest thoughts about future with Broncos

1 hour ago 3

The Denver Broncos boast one of the league's most complete rosters heading into the 2026 season, but talk of contract extensions for key players is one of the top storylines of this offseason so far. Recently. I ranked how the team should be prioritizing these potential extensions

One of the names most often connected to uncertainty on the team's roster is wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr., who is preparing to enter his fourth year in the league. The Broncos could be inclined to trade one of their young wide receivers after acquiring Jaylen Waddle this offseason and there are many who feel that Mins, an unrestricted free agent following the season, should be that guy.

However, that seems like an incredibly short-sighted move for the team, as Mims has gone to two Pro Bowls due to his abilities as a return man. If nothing else, the Broncos should not give that away easily. Mims can be a bigger part of the offense, but attempts to use him on trick plays as a gadget player haven't produced much in the past. He has, however, been the team's most prolific deep threat in the passing game.

But in speaking to the media recently, Mims was honest about potentially playing in his final year with the team, while being asked about a possible contract extension.

"Yeah, that'd be sweet, I think it would be a huge peace of mind for me, just situation wise, but also, with me being Sean's first draft class (in Denver) and it being my contract year, it's gonna be Riley (Moss), Drew Sanders, JL Skinner, Alex Forsyth, that whole draft class and undrafted guys, ya know, Jaleel (McLaughlin), Nate Adkins, so it's kind of getting to the point where it's like, can't keep everybody, ya know? And I feel like, especially as a draft class and the draft classes after us have performed really well. That's how you know you have really good scouts and a really good front office, so we'll see what happens, who they want to retain, who they want to keep, but at the end of the day, I mean, us as players, the fans, you guys know they can't really keep everybody. So we'll see what happens.

But, I mean, if this is my last year, I'm looking forward to it with these guys cause I've had a great time here in Denver the past three years", said Mims.

The business side of the NFL can be depressing, and Mims seems resigned to that fact. The Broncos would like to keep everybody, but in a world run by a salary cap, it doesn't work that way. With that in mind, the Broncos should do whatever it takes to keep Mims in the building and should see him as a bigger future asset than either Troy Franklin and Pat Bryant, at least in terms of how those players look right now. Things could certainly look different at the end of the season, but the Broncos will risk losing Mims to free agency if they wait that long.
