Mark Henry thinks recent WWE controversy was out of Triple H's hands

Mark Henry has defended Triple H after a recent WWE controversy that caused a stir on social media. It has been a tough year for the chief of content, especially after multiple storylines fell flat.

One of the most unpopular WWE results of the year happened on December 13 at Saturday Night's Main Event. It was John Cena tapping out to Gunther in his retirement match. The result caused a lot of chaos, from the streets of Washington, D.C. to social media.

While some people blame WWE and Triple H for putting Cena in that position, Mark Henry believes that it was The GOAT himself who thought of the finish of his final match.

Here's what The World's Strongest Man told Bill Apter on the APTER CHAT show on YouTube:

"I think that John is a man of the people. And he said like two years ago that he wanted to leave the business better than it was when it came in. John did not get people caring for him like he's doing for the business right now."

Mark Henry also argued that John Cena tapping out didn't ruin his "Never Give Up" motto and won't have a long-term effect on his fans. Henry did agree with Bill Apter's take that it might have been better if Cena passed out rather than tapped out.

Mark Henry was backstage after John Cena's final match

There were a ton of WWE legends in attendance at the Capital One Center to witness John Cena's farewell match, including Mark Henry. The Hall of Famer revealed on Busted Open Radio how the mood was backstage after he lost to Gunther.

"I walked through the back to do this broadcast and there was a line of about 30 or 40 people to get to John, hugging and consoling him. We gave the salute and I kept going and came up here, but like, people were emotional. The last time I saw people crying emotional like that was… somebody passed away," Henry said. [H/T SEScoops]

The World's Strongest Man added that Cena's going to Hollywood, so he's never going away. He signed a new five-year deal with WWE to become an ambassador for the company.
