Mariners should bolster bullpen by going after Twins dominant reliever

The Seattle Mariners are having a solid season thus far and would be a playoff team if the season ended today.

At 51-45, the Mariners have a one-and-a-half game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays for the third American League Wild Card spot.

Seattle has relied on Most Valuable Player candidate Cal Raleigh and a steady bullpen thus far and should look to shore up any roster holes before the trade deadline.

With the Minnesota Twins on the outside looking in at 47-49, FanSided’s Quinn Everts thinks Seattle should call about one of their dominant relievers.

Twins setup man Griffin Jax has been a stud this season and would be an excellent addition to Seattle’s lockdown bullpen.

Jax, 30, has had a solid season with Minnesota and has a career-high strikeout-to-walk ratio of 6.6.

In 44 appearances, Jax is 1-4 with a 3.92 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP with 66 strikeouts in 41.1 innings.

“The Mariners' bullpen isn't shot, but one extra arm is how this team can take its reliever unit to truly elite status,” wrote Everts. “Jax is just one of multiple potential relief pitchers who the Mariners could target; but he might provide the best value without Seattle having to give up a super valuable prospect.”

If the Mariners are serious about not wasting Raleigh’s historic season, adding another reliever to the mix is a great way of maximizing their potential.

Seattle is one of the few teams that haven’t hoisted the World Series trophy, but anything can happen if they can get in. Acquiring Jax could be what propels the team into the postseason.
