The Seattle Mariners have had an interesting season, in which one of the main reasons why they are in second place in their AL West Division is not due to their bats. Instead, it has been the pitching that has helped set them apart.
Even with a solid rotation, there is one move they could make internally to really spice things up. Kade Anderson, who has been an absolute stud down in the minors, might be due for a snap call-up to try to gauge his skill.
Brian Woo, George Kirby, and Emerson Hancock have all been stellar this season, but Luis Castillo has been a sore spot. This gives a fantastic opportunity to try and shop Castillo and bring up Anderson, should he be ready for a Major League call-up.
The 21-year-old southpaw has a 3-0 record at Double-A, with an ERA of 1.63. In 38.2 innings, Anderson has sat down 58 batters on strikes, a large part of which is due to his devastating slider. There is an idea here that the Mariners made a great decision drafting him with the third pick of the 2025 MLB Draft.
Is it too early, possibly. But things are going south fast for Castillo, and the Mariners are going to have to try to fix that giant hole in the wall. With how well the Athletics have been this season, the M's are going to be playing catch-up all year if they are nearly guaranteed a loss every fifth day.
Giving Anderson a shot is a reasonable option, rather than trying to bring in external talent.
