Big changes are already underway at Manchester United under new head coach Ruben Amorim. One of his first decisions — removing Ruud van Nistelrooy from the staff — has sparked mixed reactions among fans.

However, midfielder Manuel Ugarte has come forward to shed light on the importance of one person who is staying: Darren Fletcher.

The former United midfielder, now a coach, will remain part of Amorim’s setup, a choice that has not gone unnoticed.

While some fans questioned the decision to keep Fletcher over van Nistelrooy, Ugarte explained how Fletcher plays a vital role in the team.

What Ugarte said on keeping Fletcher

Speaking to the club’s official media, Ugarte, who joined United this summer, praised Fletcher’s influence.

“We all know what it means to be United, with the history we have. The history, the fans, the mystique," Ugarte said.

"I understand this responsibility and that starts with the day-to-day, being 100 percent focused on the football and ready to win trophies,”

The Uruguayan also revealed how Fletcher, who made over 340 appearances for the club, helps players understand the culture and expectations at United.

“When you are with people who are part of the history, like Fletcher, they transmit what it means to be United,” Ugarte added.

Fletcher’s deep connection to the club and his ability to bridge the gap between the academy and the first team have solidified his position in Amorim’s coaching staff, even as others, like van Nistelrooy, departed.

Ugarte labels Amorim as 'great coach'

Having played under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon, Ugarte is thrilled to reunite with the Portuguese coach. Reflecting on his time in Portugal, he credited Amorim for shaping his growth as a player.

“We had a great coach [Ruben Amorim] who helped me a lot,” he shared.

The midfielder believes Amorim’s arrival will bring positive changes to Manchester United, with his focus on discipline and teamwork already evident in his decisions.
